Confirmation
Preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit – his actions, his gifts, and his biddings – in order to be more capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of Christian life. To this end catechesis for Confirmation should strive to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ, the universal Church as well as the parish community.
There is a close relationship between the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation.
While Confirmation is a distinct and complete sacrament in its own right, its purpose is to perfect in us that which was begun in Baptism, strengthening in us the gifts we receive from the Holy Spirit to become active members of the missionary Church. We might say—in a sense—that we are baptised in order to be confirmed.
The Confirmation programme is for young people in school year 9 and above, who live within the parish of Holy Cross, Parsons Green and are practising their Catholic faith.
Confirmation enrolments will open in November 2026.
The course will start in the Spring term on Saturday early afternoons, and shall continue for 12 sessions excluding February half term and Easter holidays. Confirmations will be celebrated in May 2027 (date TBC) .
We implement different Catholic programmes for a more personalised approach depending on the group of candidates.
Starting from October 2026, our parish will also run the Alpha Youth Series once a month on Saturday lunch time. This course is designed for all children from 10-year-old and it is a great introduction to the Confirmation journey. Today’s young people have an increasing level of openness, optimism, and curiosity. They want to make and inspire change in the world around them. They seek out spaces of authenticity and integrity. Made for this generation, the Alpha Youth Series creatively unpack the real questions young people have. Alpha introduces and explores the core ideas of the Christian faith in a relevant, accessible and engaging way.
